DYOD Mods

These maps are for use in the TC2M game. To use these maps, you must first install the "DYOD Mod."

THE DYOD MOD (MAPS)

These custom TC2M maps represent fictional locations and have been adapted from maps used in THE WINTER WAR simulation. To open and use the maps yourself, you will need  a mod called the "DYOD Mod."  It was named for "Design Your Own Division," a format for fictional command simulations.  The DYOD Mod was used in the South Branch and North Branch Campaign Simulations and will continue to be used in the Grand Campaign.

To run the maps, you will need:

1. The Game: TC2M patched up to 3.0 and running the CMP3.0 mod. (I backed up all my old files and then just did a clean install to start the new simulation.)

2. Packages: The simulation will use the BOW.dat and BOW2.dat package files, which should be installed in the packages folder in your TC2M Directory  For some maps, additional packages are needed: DYOD_1.dat, DYOD_2.dat, and DYOD_3.dat

3. Graphics: You will need the DYOD terrain graphics, which should be copied into the terrain folder, which is a sub-folder of the Graphics folder in your TC2M Directory.

4. Sprite and Texture Entries: You will need to copy sprite and texture entries into your sprites.csv and textures.csv files, which are located in the Data Files folder in your TC2M Directory

5. Maps: Once you have put those files into your TC2M Director and made the sprite and texture entries, you will be able to run any map used in the  Branch Campaign Simulation. The maps will all have a DYOD prefix before the name of the map. Each map has 4 files, a ,csv file, .lsl file, .tga file and .dds file.  (e.g. DYOD_Clinton.csv, DYOD_Clinton.lsl, DYOD_Clinton_MM.dds, DYOD_Clinton.tga) You simply copy these four files into the maps folder in your TC2M directory and then you will be able to run the map in Open Plan.

6. Compression: A program that can open  .rar compressed files, e.g. You can get the trial version of WinRar and use the basic program at no cost to open .rar compressed files.

Setting up the Game

THE GAME: To start, the Take Command 2nd Manassas game is needed. It is still available from Norb Software Development Inc: Buy Take Command 2nd Manassas  When installing the game in Windows 7 or later, it tends to attempt to install in C: Programs(x86).  For mods to work effectively, it is recommended that you install TC2M directly onto your C drive, rather than into the programs(x86) directory. Once installed, compatibility settings should be set for Windows XP, Service Pack 3.

PATCH 3.0: Once you have the game, it should be patched up to the last version, which was 3.0. The patch is available here: TC2M Patch 3.0

CMP3.0: The DYOD Mod is based on what is known as CMP3.0 (Community Mod Pack 3.0). This was developed by members of the TC2M community when it was at its height and includes additional maps, flags, units and other modifications to the game. It is available here: CMP3.0

DYOD Mod

This DYOD MOD folder includes everything you need to set up the DYOD mod. It is not too difficult and I can help if you run into any difficulties. You will need a program to open .rar compressed files to open the folder.

DYOD Maps (for Grand Campaign simulation)

I had removed the links to the DYOD Maps, but by request, here is a link to a folder with all the original TC2M modded maps used in the Grand Campaign Simulation: DYOD Map Folder

For reference, here is a link to the DYOD Campaign Map and a DYOD Mini Map Folder for a closer look at each individual map.

  2. Hi Scott, I recently came across this page with all the various maps and such and gave Caesar Ford a try. Very well done, allows for many possibilities in open play. Yesterday, however, I came back to download a few more to try out and all download links to the Google Drive are broken. If you could fix these links or just send me them directly that would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Wow! I didn't think anyone would EVER be playing these maps! I had them for the simulation I was running a while back. I deleted the maps from google drive (yesterday) to make space for other things. I will be happy to restore them. Some are better than others. They were really designed from the simulation, but a lot are indeed good for open play. I will edit this page and restore the better maps sometime this week. - Scott

    1. Good to hear, if you still need to clear the drive you could always upload them to moddb, Internet Archive or somewhere else as well as any stuff from the "War in Arkansas" and "The Winter War" campaigns. On the other hand I could do it for you with your permission.

As for how many would play them, I have no idea. It's sad that TC2M is sorta dormant. This campaign is about the only thing I've seen associated with it recently. But for me there just isn't really anything else that better simulates the combat of that era from a tactical standpoint.

  4. The DYOD Maps are now re-posted with a link to a single folder. Let me know if there are any problems. I have to restore the links for the actual mod, but will work on that soon.

  5. Sorry about that. I have deleted them. I started getting the mod together this weekend for re-posting. I hopes to post them again this month (July '22). I will also post a couple of my newer maps.
