Clash of Sabers at Lebanon - July 7th

A battalion of Federal cavalry advanced on  Lebanon from the north and was met by a Confederate cavalry battalion deployed in an apple orchard on the north side of the village. The Federals closed in and engaged, but were soon surprised as the Confederates mounted up and charged out of the orchard. With cavalry having so far taken a restrained approach, this was the first melee of the campaign.
